Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at confirming a number of accounts depicting Luigi Barzini as one of the innovators of the Italian journalistic register at the beginning of the 20th century. It features a report explaining why Barzini made such an impact, as well as the reasons why he is considered by scholars as one of the founders of the modern Italian journalistic register. In addition, the paper presents the comparison of two chronicles discussing the events related to the May Coup of 1903 in Serbia, published in the daily newspapers of Corriere della Sera and La Stampa respectively, with a view to detecting similarities and differences in the language and style.
