Summary/Abstract: With a growing tendency to examine the translations in the context of their social, cultural and historical situation, translatologists must increasingly work with historical sources. Translatologists are mostly unaware of the functioning of the archival environment in which these historical sources are stored and processed. That is why this article is conceived as a presentation of the legislative rules that the researcher must follow while working in the archive, as well as the methods used to criticize and interpret the sources.
