Summary/Abstract: Insurance companies as a public listed companies are listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) from 1995, 4 years after first trading session. , TUiR Warta made her first debut. There were 6 companies representatives of the insurance industry. TUiR Warta was first public listed company, but at the end of 2017 only PZU and the German Talanx remained on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The history of Polish insurers on the WSE includes successes of insurance projects from the beginning of transforma- tion (TU Europa) and bankruptcy (TU Polisa). Privatization through the stock exchange faced a num- ber of difficulties and delays (TUiR Warta and PZU) and depend from many factors. Insurance law first contained elements of protectionism (up to 1999) and protected the domestic insurance market from the activity of foreign insurance companies, so that after Poland’s accession to the European Union (in 2004) the market was liberalized. The entry of the industry’s foreign capital was a more important support for the development of Polish, listed insurers (TU Compensa and TUiR Warta), rather than IPO on WSE. PZU, the leader of the Polish insurance market is currently the only Polish insurance company listed on the stock exchange, and at the same time a company that did not need capital from stock investors. In case of dual listed Talanx, Deutsche Boerse is the main trading floor.
