Summary/Abstract: For a long time, it has been a widely accepted fact that a few key informants provide a substantial amount of information about local culture and the social environment to anthropologists and ethnologists during their ethnographic fieldwork trips. Key informants enable ethnographers to gain valuable information in a limited time. Interaction with a key informant constitutes “the strategic point of entry into a field, then, but the proper grounding of conclusive analysis” (Rapport and Overing 2003 [2000]: 204). Following this understanding, scholars consider key informants as people who are competent and willing to share their extensive cultural knowledge with ethnographers.
