Summary/Abstract: St. John Chrysostom, who was born about 349 after Christ, was one of the greatestpreachers in the history of the Church. In his homilies, he focused on the moralformation of Christians. He did so at the expense of strictly doctrinal preaching.To this day, only his polemical homilies with heresies of that time have been preserved,which undermined the divinity of the Holy Spirit and the occurrence connected withthe celebration of Pentecost and Epiphany. His statements about the Holy Spiritinclude also some catechetical homilies and speeches against Jews, Judaizers andHellenes. Dynamic rhetoric and intransigence of Saint John Chrysostom can be aninspiration for the modern homilist in preparing the proclamation of the Holy Spirit.
