Summary/Abstract: The first part of the paper includes discussion of the general meaning of “commitment” in sociology, in relation to the use of sociology in the legitimation of “regime’s policy”, and also in the form of correct scientific analysis of the social reality which could lead to the desired social changes for improving the humanity of everyday life of all members of a given society. Some conditions leading to the increased social demands for sociological expertise have been mentioned, as well as the need for more applied knowledge in sociology in Serbia.
