Summary/Abstract: The culture of transmodernity is accompanied by a number of changes concerning religion. The secularization theory has ended in failure; the role of spirituality and religion is emphasized. Changes occasionally provoke the thesis that Protestantization and Pentecostalization of Christianity is taking place, leading to fragmentation and decomposition. This is accompanied by a tendency to decentralize the Catholic Church. This poses challenges to theological hermeneutics regarding the reception of Vatican II and the reading of the signs of the times; this also requires the Church to take an appropriate spiritual attitude and define the vision of the future.
