Summary/Abstract: In this article I propose an analysis of the case of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, starting from the issue of the limits of the freedom of expression and the ethical responsibility of journalistic decisions. I have tried to find out to what extent can freedom of speech be legitimately limited when it comes into conflict, in the public space, with religious freedom. Thus, I have first discussed the perspective that classical liberalism proposes here - through John Stuart Mill - and then I have reviewed the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights, trying to examine the solutions proposed by the Court judges in similar cases. Finally, I have also presented the reasons why the editors of the magazine decided to publish the caricatures with Mohamed, as well as the arguments advanced by the French judges in the lawsuits against the magazine.
