Summary/Abstract: One of the most remote border cities of the Ottoman Empire in the middle of the century was Kars. Due to its distance from the center of the Ottoman Empire, it was in impossibility. Therefore, trade goods, artisans and craftsmen in Istanbul and other Ottoman cities were not easily found in and around Kars. The fees of those found were also quite high. The reason for this is the location. XIX. In the city, which witnessed many wars against Russia and Iran throughout the century, famines emerged and there were intense migration movements. Adding to the cold climate of its geographical location, the development of commercial life was slow compared to other cities. In this study, XIX. Prices of artisans, craftsmen and wages, wages of civil servants and workers were examined by using Ottoman archival documents and written sources.
