Summary/Abstract: One of the biggest challenges of social and economic progress is the adequate protection of health. Innovations in technology and changes in the organization and conditions of performed labor often result in new and unknown threats. The presence of such threats requires thorough analysis of employees’ health while maintaining costs of ensuring employees’ safety at a rational level. The growing importance of insurance in the management of commercial activity costs in recent years may cause entrepreneurs to transfer the risk involved in occupational medicine costs to insurance companies. These entities can offer employers more stable and predictable costs guarantee the required availability and the desired quality of health care services. The article presents the characteristics of occupational health insurance and analyses its specific features as well as the problems that exist therein. Furthermore, the author describes the importance of occupational medicine and the legal regulations that concern it. The presented analysis focuses on the obligations of employers and the financial risk involved in compliance with the obligation to provide health care to employees, in accordance with the relevant labor law provisions. In addition, the author presents legal regulations and solutions concerning occupational health insurance, the aim of which is to reduce the risk of the employer. Lastly, he highlights the role of occu- pational health insurance in the management of the risk of incurring research costs.
