Summary/Abstract: The present study analyses some new theoretical achievements and positions with regard to the concepts of “European Identity” and "European Public Sphere”, and offers a number of fresh insights into the ongoing debate concerning the reporting of Europe. The main thesis of the article, based on empirical researches in which the author was involved, is that the EU media coverage and some new standards of practising journalism on the EU topics could enhance the emergence of a European social imaginary and a European public sphere.
