Summary/Abstract: The doctorates conferred by five Yugoslav universities in natural, technical and medical sciences during two five-year periods (1955—59, and 1970—74) are studied, and in the first period also those conferred by Serbian (SANU) and the Slovenian (SAZU) Academies of Sciences and Arts. Two of these universities (Univ. of Beograd (BU) and Univ. of Zagreb (ZS) were founded before the World War, I, one of them (Univ. of Ljubljana (LJU) in 1919, and the last two (Univ. of Sarajevo (SU) and Univ. of Skopje (SKU) at the end of 1940. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the commissions elected for the evaluation of dissertations.
