Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the proces of ’deruralization’ of rural population and some contemporary forms of the ecological degradation. The author points to: some polluting effects of the intensification of agriculture on environment; the disintegration of the autochtonous habitat manifesting itself in the abandonment of the values of the popular architectural tradition and the unhesitating adoption of the uniform mass housing models; the neglection of natural goods and landscape values of rural areas.
