Summary/Abstract: This paper presents an anthropological review of the two concerts of sevdalinka songs that were held at the Sava Center in Belgrade, in November of 2010 and 2011. First, sevdalinka is placed in the context of the Yugoslav cultural heritage, and then, using the analysis of these two concerts, the attempt is to show that from a purely musical “genre” it can become the mean of “overcoming the past” – referring to the last ethnic conflict in the former Yugoslavia.
