The Analysis of Violence in Television Programs

Summary/Abstract: In this paper I intend to analyze violence in its various forms displayed on Romanian TV programs with high visibility and audience. Throughout the study, I shall employ as benchmarks both the latest studies in this area - the domestic and foreign specialty literature, and the regulations of the National Audiovisual Council (CNA) in Romania. I will use the phrase “violent contents” because in this study I will refer to the definition of violence filed by the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe and to the typologies of violence used in the analysis of media space, with direct reference to the audiovisual space, especially the television space. Moreover, I will attempt to tackle the effects of the violent contents on the children - a category of people identified by psychologists as the most vulnerable to media violence and excesses.
