WOMEN FROM YUGOSLAVIA AT WORK IN EUROPE

Summary/Abstract: Migratory experience, although apparently providing migrant women with conditions for economic independence through paid work, does not eradicate women’s subordination. Paid work abroad is not the way out of the constellation of circumstances which make women’s position insecure, dependent and subord'nate. It is, however, important for their selfesteem mid for the respect from their entourage. It can, when other conditions are met, open new opportunities and help women in their self-determination. But the obstacles are sometimes such that women and up compromising and avoiding conflicts.
