Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the relationship between an old concept (democracy) and a new one (totalitarianism), showing that in the contemporary social and political theory there is mostly their ideological interpretation and conflict. The author deals with the historical usage of both concepts, pointing out that even in the best theoretical works the origin of the term “totalitarianism” has been neglected.
