Summary/Abstract: Gyula Mihály Szigethi was a professor of the Reformed College in Odorheiu-Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely) at the turn of the 19th century. In his historical writings, which survived in the form of manuscripts, he established an opinion on the subject of the Szeklers’ origins, combining two different standpoints. Into György Pray’s theory stating that the Szeklers are descendants of the Pechenegs, he incorporated some elements of the chronicles forged in the 18th century. These chronicles, however, were forged exactly to prove the Hunnic origins of the Szeklers. It seems that at the end of his life his standpoint had changed and he also became an unreserved supporter of the popular theory among the Szeklers, that of their Hunnic origins.
