Summary/Abstract: If the fundamental task of resocialization is to change prisoners' "criminal" system of values and norms to be in accordance with socially acceptable and desirable norms of behavior then it is understandable that this also includes post-penal treatment of the convicts. It is commonly believed that the process of resocialization is being implemented in prison. However, in prison, preparations are being made, training for social resocialization and a special kind of socialization - resocialization in the prison environment. Resocialization is being achieved and the success of the treatment in the prison is shown at liberty, upon the release of an individual from prison to the community. The aim of this paper is to point out how much social circumstances are a significant factor in the resocialization of former convicts.
