Summary/Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the activities of the national association of sociologists in Serbia – the Serbian Sociological Society (founded 1954), in two periods: 1961–1974 and 1975–1992. The first period is characterized by routine activities, as well as crisis in professional and social activities, among other things caused by political factors. The second period (when the Society was working under the name Sociological Association of Serbia), characterized by a rise in activity at the professional level (establishing sections, preparing conferences and debates, publishing books and journals), and at the social level (declaring public statements, sending protest letters to authorities, preparing public debates on issues of political and social reforms, etc.).
