Summary/Abstract: Until the time of entry into force of the New Civil Code, the seat of the subject of knowledge was the Commercial Code (art. 565-570) under the title „About the loading policy”. Acknowledgment is the document proving a contract of transport at sea and the taking or loading of the goods by the carrier, whereby the carrier commits to deliver the goods to the destination against the presentation of this document. The knowledge is used in maritime traffic from the 14th century, initially having the function of merely receiving the cargo on board, signed by the master of the ship to become, later, a representative title of the cargo being transported. The knowledge is issued in the case of transport by liner and in the case of the charter contract. If the applicable law is the Romanian law, the knowledge will be subject to the Hamburg Rules.
