Summary/Abstract: The most compelling evidence of stability of national economy are economic growth along with price stability, full employment and favorable balance of trade. Conversely, economic decline along with rising prices (inflation), unemployment growth, massive state budget deficit and unfavorable balance of trade are unmistakable signs of macroeconomic instability. Unemployment and inflation are of particular importance, all the more so because they are most often used as criteria for evaluating success of any given economic-social system and economic policies of the government. Moreover, in assessing the state of the economy and success of its government, many economists and politicians use „poverty index“ which reveals level of unemployment and inflation. Concurrent stagnation and inflation (stagflation) poses a new challenge for economic science and state macroeconomic policy.
