Summary/Abstract: Domestic violence, which include and violence against children, is one of the most difficult forms of violence, especially because through this manifestation fundamental human rights and freedoms are violated. Actual social context in Serbia, like in region countries, indicates an increase in the number of children of victims of domestic violence and at the same time the need for strengthening the capacities of the social protection system in order to answer the problem more adequately. Applicable legislation in Serbia requires increased engagement of experts in the social protection system, but at the same time it is necessary to ensure continuous improvement of the competencies of experts in this field. The aim of this paper is to explore the specific needs for supporting foster care that have been exposed in various ways to family violence and the current willingness of social protection systems to respond to their needs. Children who as victims are placed in foster famlilies require access tailored to their experience and specifities for which it is necessary to improve the knowledge and skills of professionals, to help foster care givers to support children in their recovery process. The system lacks a variety of services that also can provide continuous support to the children. It is also a question of how much information about the experiences of domestic violence that the child has experienced, have key actors in its protection, because during the duration of protection these data are lost and the focus is on the consequences that the child shows rather than on the causes, which makes it difficult to create targeted interventions.
