Summary/Abstract: The violence as a phenomenon is present throughout human history, and hence it is understandable that it is an object of interest in more social sciences, primarily sociology, law, criminology and psychology. Why it comes to violence, what are the reasons for its occurrence, how to put it within a reasonable frame is the theme of the paper, the subject of interest is the violence in the family, more specifically the violence against women, while treating the socioeconomic aspects that affect the occurrence of violence. For this purpose, we conducted a survey in which context we make an attempt to get close to the dark figure of this present phenomenon, bearing in mind that the women (mother, daughter, sister, grandmother) are still considered as a stereotypes in certain environments with a subordinate role, and often cannot speak freely about what is happening in the family's closed circle. When talking about domestic violence, we often cannot talk about one victim. A victim of violence can be any family member, but most often it is a woman. The violence against women leaves not only a trace in the family relationships, but is also detected within the overall social life. Part of the paper is dedicated to international and national conventions, laws and norms, as well as the role of the non-governmental sector in raising the right and the awareness of women about their human rights. The fact is that with any form of violence, the human dignity of each of us is ruined.
