Summary/Abstract: Being that computer crime has become a transnational problem triggering impacts that reach far beyond the borders of any singular country, it is clear that the mechanisms to combat this type of crime should also involve undertaking appropriate technical, structural and educational measures. In the last few years, with the expansion of social networks and increase of their popularity, it has become clear that the focus of "classic" forms of computer crime has increasingly shifted to the extent of violating the privacy of their users. If we take into account what privacy is and does someone have the right to share private data and information with others, one question arises: how making it possible for popular social networks to respect the imperative of morally responsible behavior, and how the users themselves have to take care of protecting their own privacy. The easiest way to prevent the misuse of personal data is to influence on the users themselves to limit the right to access their data, while the basic principle of social networks should be dedicated to the fight against the unauthorized download of user personal data. This paper analyzes some of the strategic conceptions, strategic orientations and recommendations for prevention and repressive systemic actions in order to combat this type of criminality, practical ways for protecting information systems and privacy on social networks, as well as recommendations to social network users for applying the appropriate "online" activities for safe use of the Internet. In order to reduce the number of information technology abuses and the violations of the right to privacy of social network users, it is necessary to create appropriate legal mechanisms and legal regulations for detecting and sanctioning these socially unacceptable criminal behavior. The paper emphasizes the importance of reporting criminal offenses of computer crime to the competent authorities, in order to reduce the "dark number of criminality" and to achieve better preventive action, identifying and monitoring such acts as well asto inorm public withpossible models of misuse of social networks and preventing the victimization of users.
