Summary/Abstract: The most important principle in firm activities improving is performance measurement. Financial institutions, especially commercial and specialist banks, have a great role in the economic and social development of countries. Therefore, performance analysis of these institutions is of great importance. The main purpose of this study is to measure the performance efficiency of eight selected commercial and expert banks in East Azerbaijan province of Iran between 2013-2016. Data Envelopment Analysis which is based on linear programming was used as the method in this study. According to the results of the study, the scale inefficiency was greater than technical inefficiency in all years and in almost all years the average managerial efficiency was greater than the average scale efficiency. Therefore, the problem of not operating the banks at the optimum scale is more severe than the managerial inefficiency. In this context, banks are advised to use existing resources more effectively, taking into account scale sizes.
