Summary/Abstract: Adapting educational requirements for children with special educational needs is a very difficultprocess. Usually, it involves lowering expectations for children and harmonizing their level withthat which teachers set. Under the term of a student with special needs, we could also understanda capable child for whom the material provided for in the core curriculum is too simple, too obvious. The main task of the teacher in this case is to enable him to use all of his potential. Adaptationof education methods for such a child, especially in a large class, is difficult task. The article describes the methods and ways of adapting the program for a gifted child. The notion of childrenfunctioning above the norm unambiguously defined in comparison with their peers, consideringthe definition of what intelligence is. Also described are issues of home education, individual learning program, individual course of study, tutoring and mentoring along with the characteristics of“otherness” of gifted children.
