The Role of a Child Educator in Health Education

Summary/Abstract: The educator at an early childhood education and care institution plays an important role in shaping healthy habits in children. Frequently, it is at the facility where the child gains basic information on activities which have significant influence on its harmonious development. Sometimes theeducators play the role of decision makers in matters that are very important for the child, such asthe moment of weaning from the bottle or pacifier (so important in preventing dental diseases andspeech impairments) or the need to consult a pediatrician (when the parent ignores infectionsymptoms of the child). Parents frequently ask the educators about various matters, share theirconcerns raised by information gathered, for example, from internet blogs or conversations withother parents. This article seeks to answer the question of what the role of an educator of a smallchild is, with special emphasis on health education.
