The authors not only describe the traditional themes and methods of Japanese specialists in various academic disciplines (historians, ethnographers, literary researchers, art historians and others), but also present their joint and integrated research carried out in our time, and analyze the trend of the research subjects. Particular attention is paid to the work of Japanese researchers in collaboration with their foreign colleagues in organizing expeditions, conferences and publishing books in recent times.
