Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article was to deal with some interesting topics related to free and open source software. In the beginning, certain terms used in the field of software development and its legal protection are defined. In the main part, the most important free and open source licences are introduced, the relation of licence compatibility is described and the issues of dual licensing and multilicensing are presented. The last two chapters contain description of some court cases concerning free licences and a consideration about the limitation of liability clauses and their validity in the Czech law.
