Summary/Abstract: This is a comparative essay that describes the process of integration and Americanization of three immigrant groups — Southern Italians, Eastern European Jews and Poles — who arrived in the United States of America sometime between 1880-1924. The author analyzes their experience with and in the new society, and the ways the newcomers sought to adapt to what were often unexpected problems, not least for both Italians and Poles of becommg ethnic minorities.
