Summary/Abstract: Political scenes of Yugoslavia in the late 80s and of new states established on its territory in the early 90s were structured and polarized by two sharp social conflicts. They at the same time made a basis for social foundation of newly formed political parties. The first was a conflict in regard to changing the type of the social system, a communism vs. anti-communism cleavage. The second w'as a conflict regarding the future of the Yugoslav federation and establishment of new independent states. The latter encompassed several cleavages that overlapped, making in this way the basic conflict broader and more intensive: integration vs. separatism, nationalism vs. non-nationalism, nation-state vs. civil state...
