Summary/Abstract: What is the difference between „minimalist” and „maximal” understanding of justice? How does mercy matter to justice? Are the both not mutually exclusive? Can they be discussed with a minimalist approach without being deprived of its actual meaning? The article of Father Leszek Mateja gives the answers to these questions by comparing the works of Seneca (De clementia) and Tertullian’s (Adversus Marcionem). The both present different approaches to mercy and its influence on justice.
