Summary/Abstract: According to Greenhaus & Beutell (1985)work – family conflict occurs when the simultaneous pressures coming from work and family roles are not compatible. The newest researches offer the models which explain two-way of the work – family conflict: from-family-to-work and from-work-to-family (Greenhaus, Parasuraman, Granrose, Rabinowitz, i Beutell, 1989;Kinnunen Mauno, 1998; Ernst Kossek i Ozeki, 1998). The goal of this research was to determine the work and family factors connected to work-family conflict as well as to determine whether there are gender differences in types of factors connected to work – family conflict. The participants were 178 dual – earning couples with underage children. The instruments were: Family Involvement Scale, Partner Support Scale, Type of Marriage, Division of Family Chores Scale, Questionnaire on Psychosocial factors at Work, Job Involvement Scale, Social Support at Work Scale and Work – Family Conflict Scale. The results of hierarchical regression analysis show that participants with younger children and with less satisfaction with division of family tasks tend to have more family – work conflict. On the other hand, the participants who experience more partner support and are more involved in family life tend to have less family- work conflict. The participants who perceive more demands at work, men who perceive more role ambiguity and role conflict, as well as women who have less social support from the work colleagues tend to have more work – family conflict. There are no significant differences in levels of conflict between men and women in the sample. The practical implications and interventions based on the findings are discussed in the text.
