Summary/Abstract: The present text is organized as follows: (§1) presents the well-known analytic-synthetic distinction; (§2) introduces an informal example, which serves to analyze the aforementioned distinction; (§3) proposes new definitions of the terms “analytic” and “synthetic”, which partially respect their present interpretation, but are not mutually incompatible; (§4) proposes some general conclusions from the present discussion regarding the ontology and epistemology of mathematics.
