Summary/Abstract: „Cieszyn Dwarfs” is a children puppet theatre, founded by a teacher Jan Cieślar at Primary School No 4 in Cieszyn. This amateur theatre gained large popularity in Cieszyn Silesia and drew attention of the activists of a professional puppet theatre (J.I. Sztaudynger) which was being formed at that time. Inspired by the Puppet Theatre “Baj” in Warsaw, “Cieszyn Dwarfs” developed artistic activity with its own characteristic features. It existed until 1975 and showed almost 1200 performances. The study does not only present the birth and activity of “Cieszyn Dwarfs” but is also an attempt at grounding the theatre in the conjunction of different – pedagogical, social and artistic – influences.
