Summary/Abstract: International organizations can be seen as a sort of political marketplace where one can observe the relationships between peoples, groups, nations, states and blocs. Some organizations will fulfill limited roles and functions while others may cover a wide range roles and functions. In the aftermath of the Soviet Union it became obvious that Turkey mainly focused on economic cooperation rather than any political or military engagement in the international politics. Dissolution of the USSR refers a new era for Turkey and the whole world as well. As the restrictions of the bipolar world were ne ore existent existent, the former East bloc states tried to establish cooperation with the rest of the world. In the same manner, Turkey started to seek contact with the former East bloc countries as well. Within this context the establishment of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) took place in early 1990’s. This article examines the establishment of BSEC and Turkey’s performance as a leading founder of the organization. This article discusses the emergence of international organizations and regional cooperation/regionalism as well.
