Summary/Abstract: Many of the essential economic problems in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which had not been resolved in peacetime, became even more acute in Serbia when this part of the country was occupied. The solution of these problems was made all the more difficult by the economic and political hardships brought on by war and the country's occupation. Serbia’s economy, cut off from the rest of the kingdom, was unable to function successfully, especially in the sphere of industry. Its agriculture could barely fulfill its basic objective of producing food. The mining in Serbia, mostly dealing with non-ferrous metals, a vital and scarce raw material during the war, was in the hands of the enemy, leaving Serbia bereft of its benefits.
