Summary/Abstract: The wooden churches from Bistriţa region, which also include the wooden church of the old monastery from Parva, form a valuable patrimony both on a national and international level. If the monument from Parva had survived, it would have impressed with its equilibrium and the harmony of proportions, it would have been an impressive monument through its simplicity, proof of a constructive tradition practiced for a long time and of a perfect virtuosity of the local artists. Besides the importance of the wooden churches, a very important role is played by the icons, which represent the thesaurus of these churches. The main purpose of this study was determined by the importance of its inclusion within the values’ circuit of the national and European patrimony of several works that are less famous and examined, such as the icons from Bistriţa region, the one from Parva Monastery respectively, created by the local artists during one century and which present a particular interest through their real artistic value. The wish to understand the process of restoration, to know the history and along with it, the story of each piece as individuality is one of the impulses that brought us close to them. In order to establish exactly the materials used for the structure of the icon, to establish the real state of preservation of the pieces and of the causes that led to degradation, we developed an ample and complex investigation. The past becomes present through the objects that are the result of traditions and crafts revived by restorers. The beauty and the diversity of themes, drawing, composition and color of the artists from the past reflect the very life that they led. The approach of this subject is useful now, when we are ready to prove our contribution to the European culture and spirituality, and it would not be appropriate to ignore precisely the Christian values characteristic 12 to our country. And the wooden churches as well as the icons, especially the old ones, represent a rather ignored chapter.
