Summary/Abstract: The author deals with the relationships among ideology, the public and “third place”, or coffeehouses in the broadest sense. While the “first place” devoted to secrecy or semi secrecy of family life, “second place” devoted controlled productivity in the sphere of work, “third places” are spaces on the margins of political and media publics and concealed bourgeois family life. The author stresses that there are very strong historical and social ties in the simultaneous genesis of public opinion and civil liberties, ideology (as a Weltanschauung of the social world that can be altered by human intervention and social and political mobilization), critical public of the private citizens, free individuals (who publicly reasoning) and “third places “ as some of the key factors in the onset of generative modern civil society. It emphasizes a strong fit among communication revolution, print media and the role of “third places” in the development of ideology and critical public.
