Summary/Abstract: From the beginning the Church has been confessing the faith in one God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was manifested, given in gift and made known as the third Divine Person. He is permanently present and active as the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ in the revelation of the Old and the New Testaments. On Pentecost Christ, together with the Father, sends the Holy Spirit and gives birth to the Church in order to constantly sanctify, lead and perfect it all way up to his second coming. Viewed historically, the speaking and preaching about the Holy Spirit was in certain periods partly neglected. After the Second Vatican Council it seemed as if “the age of the Holy Spirit” had set in. One speaks and writes about him, and many spiritual movements appear. The Holy Spirit sanctifies and leads the Church, he is present in its sacramental reality, in its sacramental acts and signs of sanctification, in his gifts, fruits and charismas happening today in the Church and in the life of Christians. This paper speaks about all this in the light of the practical Christian life and the witnessing of faith inspired, led and fed by the Holy Spirit.
