Applications of Corpus Linguistics in the Translation of Texts from Areas Generating Neologisms: the Case of ‘Economic Degrowth’

Summary/Abstract: The main object of this paper is discussion about the translation from Italian into Spanish of the chapter “Decrescita, lavoro e occupazione” contained in the book entitled “La decrescita felice”, by Maurizio Pallante, one of the leading exponents of the economic degrowth. In order to produce a translation that would satisfy the target readers' expectations, a corpus in Spanish containing articles on this subject was built. These resources were assembled so as to ensure that the new translation had the appropriate terminology and phraseology and followed the conventions of this text type. A concordance program was employed for corpus analysis and for the extraction of terms related to the economic degrowth. We examine the linguistics job that allowed us to use the appropriate terminology.
