Summary/Abstract: The influence, which the source language has over the second one, is an essential factor in the translation of closely related languages. The research shows that difficulties during the translation of fiction are often caused by multilingual interference. This has been often underrated and not studied enough, which inevitably affects the quality of the many translations. The article is focusing on one of the most interesting aspects of translation – cultural transfer and decoding. Bearing in mind the complexity of intercultural translation, the author attempts to explain how the translator’s choice for certain techniques has been influenced.
