Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the attitude of Różewicz and Herbert towards Beethoven’s music. The author of this paper refers to the following works: a story New School of Philosophy (PR I), an essay Painting by Night 21.01.85 (PR III), a text And Think That (ZF, P III), an article On Music and a Certain Interpreter (WG) and poems Beethoven (ROM) and A Mirror Wanders the Road (R). She gives gist of poetic polemics with some writings on Beethoven, Różewicz’s and Herbert’s attempt to question the myth of Beethoven, a significant evolution of the two poets’ attitude to the German composer and his works, as well as the reflection inspired by the artist’s tragic biography on the real meaning of his masterpieces and the consolatory power of art.
