Summary/Abstract: There is a visible tendency in the recent philosophical literature to reactualize Herder's philosophy according to revision of relation between "Metacritique of Critique of Pure Reason" and philosophy of German idealism. In this paper author deals with the relevance of attitudes that Herder's metacritique reshaped idealistic philosopheme, so that its polemic arguments have announced basic positions of postmodernism. Questionableness of such attitudes stems from the very presentation of metacritique project, announced with Hamann's "Metacritique of the Purism of Reason". Metacritique is not the enduration of the critique by its own means for it differs from the critique by complete denial of the subject of critique. Limitations of Herder's mctacritical argumentation lies in the fact that his arguments against Kant are prepared in advance and come from pre-critique period. The author draws the conclusion that Herder's philosophical achievements would be more adequately evaluated if "Metacritique" is left in the shadow of his theoretical works within the field of philosophy of history.
