Summary/Abstract: In 1994 the Institute of Romance Studies creates the specialization of translation dealing mainly with administrative and legal language. Its aim is to combine teaching foreign languages at a high level (in our case French and another Romance language, C language) with acquiring knowledge and skills necessary for translation. The Institute’s offer is becoming progressively wider, including oral interpretation as well as written translation. Since 2000 our students have been able to continue their education in UNESCO Chair in Translation and Intercultural Communication. In 1999 the Institute of Romance Philology in collaboration with Blaise Pascal University in Clermont-Ferrand starts a new communication specialization. Both specializations, despite largely overlapping the LEA (Langues Étrangères Appliquées) programme, are not independent faculties.
