Summary/Abstract: The crisis, caused by the question of Soviet rockets’ installation in Cuba in autumn of 1962, led to the most dangerous situation in international relations after the Second World War. This confrontation between two superpowers, the USA and the Soviet Union, that guided the two confronted blocks of countries, culminated in the last decade of October 1962 with the possibility of turning any time into war clashes that would have catastrophic consequences for the world and manhood, taking into consideration nuclear and other military potentials of two powers. The War was avoided at the last moment and the conflicting sides found the compromise solution in the formula of removing Soviet rocket bases from Cuba. In return, the USA had to guarantee that it would not invade Cuba and that it would raise the military blockade of this Caribbean country. The UN played the important role - from its efforts to influence the calming of the tension and mediation in finding a peaceful solution to changing the two powers’ agreement in principle into a detailed arrangement and, especially, its implementation. Yugoslavia’s attitude to this crisis was in compliance to its international position and foreign policy orientation based on the principles of nonalignment. This meant that Yugoslavia’s authorities, in spite of their affinity to Cuba as a non-aligned and socialist country and their support to defense of its nonalignment endeavored to maintain the relation of equidistance towards the superpowers during this crisis. It aimed its engagement at the contribution to the efforts for finding a peaceful way out from this difficult situation, primary through the UN activities and the non-aligned countries’ movement.
