The Impact of the Euro-Park Mielec Special Economic Zone (Poland) on the Development of Industry

Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the problems associated with the existence of special economic zones in Poland. Based on the example of the oldest special economic zone (SEZ) in Mielec, its history, development and the most important investors are presented. The issue related to the development of industry and services in the area was further discussed. The issue raised is important from this point of view, as it often emphasises the impact of special economic zones on economic development in the regions in which they are located. At the same time, numerous studies and analyses of the different views about the low impact of such areas on the industrialisation of the region can be found. From the analysis of economic data from the beginning of the presence of the area in Mielec until the end of 2016, applications were received with a positive effect of SEZ on the development of the area of the zone. It is worth emphasising that the impact is significant, that is, the zone significantly influences the development of industry and services related to the environment, both within and outside the area. However, the activities of the zone also have a negative impact on the environment. The nuisance of the subzone in Mielec is an example of undesirable effects associated with the presence of a zone in a given area.
