Summary/Abstract: This article aims to establish the reasons behind divorces among the Pomeranian Protestant nobility in the 2nd half of the 18th century and at the beginning of the 19th century, with the intention to verify existing conclusions on the scale of marriage breakdown within that group of Prussian society. The source literature is dominated by the view that relationships built by Pomeranian land owners were durable and a significant growth in the number of divorces was not to occur earlier than the turn of the 20th century. The research is based on information extracted from family and historical chronicles, which allows an examination of divorce decisions. The results of the research will be used to determine the place occupied by divorce in the collective consciousness of the Pomeranian nobility. The conclusions will be drawn from an analysis employing the theory of conjunctural action.
