Summary/Abstract: The article presents the first attempt at founding the Central Polish Archaeological Institute that took place between the years 1919 – 1923. The author presents the main projects discussed by Polish archeologists and tries to explain the reasons for abandoning the idea against the background of the division among the Polish archeological society members.
